Application Steps
1. Registration
Once you are ready to apply for a place, applications can be made online. We will ask to see a recent school report and request a reference from your child’s current school to give us a feel for their passions, interests and how they would access the curriculum at The Elms.
2. Taster Sessions AND ASSESSMENTS
Reception Stay and Play Session
Once registered for entry to Reception, children will have the opportunity to spend a couple of ours experiencing a number of exciting adult-led activities as well as meeting new friends and enjoying the range of facilities inside and outside the classroom. During their session children will meet with one of our Reception Teachers who will spend time getting to know your child in their new environment.
tASTER DAYS FOR YearS 1 – 6
Once registered, individual taster days are arranged for children to experience a day at The Elms. They will join a class within their current year group and participate in their exciting lessons and enrichment opportunities. During this time the teacher will observe their participation and interactions with pupils and staff.
ASSESSMENTs FOR YearS 3-6
Children joining these years will undertake age-appropriate entrance assessments. These can take place during the Taster Day, or on a separate visit to the school. We keep this relaxed and informal.
We request copies of latest school reports for all children joining The Elms
- For entry to Year 3, your child will undertake a reading assessment and short maths activity.
- For Year 4, children undertake a short online Maths and Reading assessment.
- For Year 5 and Year 6 entry children will be asked to take our online Cognitive Abilities Test. The assessments taken for Year 5 and Year 6 entry will also determine a reserved place at Trent College at Year 7. They will also be asked to complete a short writing activity.
For overseas applications the assessments can be facilitated remotely.
3. Offer
Further to our assessment process, we will take a holistic view of each child’s application, using all the information gathered from the teacher conversation, assessments and school reports to make a final decision on the offer of a place. Mrs Potter or our Admissions Manager will contact you directly with feedback and outcomes.
