We are delighted that you have registered your child for a place in Year 7 at Trent College. The resources below will be updated over the coming months, with the aim of providing you with all the information you need, when you need it.
Staff introductions
Mr Wood is Head of Lower School. He is looking forward to meeting the children at Transition Day.
Transition Events
Transition Day for pupils is on Friday 28 June, from 8.30am. Pupils should attend in casual clothes and wear trainers. There will be a Parents’ Information Evening on Thursday 27 June at 6.15pm.
All Year 7 pupils will be required in school, wearing school uniform, for an Induction Day on Friday 30 August, starting at 8.30am. Children will need their school bag (containing pencil case and notebook) and their PE bag (containing full PE kit including tracksuit and trainers). Please note, the school buses will not be running on this day.

First Day of Term
Term starts on Monday 2 September. Pupils should arrive wearing school uniform and go directly to the Year 7 Base in the Swallow Building for registration at 08.30am. The Trent College campus will be very busy on the first day of term. If traveling by car, please drop your child off on Derby Road or in the May Hall car park.
Boarders will be welcomed into their Boarding House from 7pm on Sunday 1 September.
Outdoor Education Day
On Friday 13 September, all pupils will have an outdoor activity day. Pupils will need to wear their Trent College tracksuit and PE top along with trainers/outdoor shoes. We recommend they also bring a change of clothes/shoes (in a bag) in case they get wet during any of the challenges.
This event will be followed by a family BBQ on the Trent College campus. Further information will be shared in September.
Boarding in year 7
Boarding can provide routine and structure for your child to maximise their learning time, whilst offering a unique model of support, encouragement, flexibility and integration. Living a distance from school is no longer the primary reason families choose boarding, with 80% of the weekly and flexi boarders at Trent living within a 45 minute drive-time of school.
SCHOOL UNIFORM AND SHOP
Full details will be available in the handbook which will be provided on Transition Day. All branded items are available from the onsite School Uniform Shop as well as on the supplier’s website. We highly recommend booking your appointment for a fitting during the summer term, to ensure that all items can be ordered in time for the start of the school term.

Learning Support
It is important for us to know whether your child has ever had an assessment for any type of specific learning difficulty, or any other speech or literacy difficulty. The assessment may have been carried out by a specialist teacher, an educational psychologist or a health professional. If so, and you have not already provided this information to The Elms, please send a copy of the report to Head of Learning Support, Trent College. Individual tuition by specialist teachers is available, and is charged per 30 or 60 minute lesson.
Bus Service
The schools currently operate an extensive network of services across the East Midlands, serving the urban areas of Derby and Nottingham as well as the surrounding rural areas of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. With over 100 stops on the network, our school bus service is designed to cater for as many parents as possible. Bus travel for the next academic year can be booked from mid-July.
Medical and Diet Forms
All pupils moving into Year 7 must have an up-to-date medical form. Please see the link below. We ask that you read the School’s Medical Policy prior to completion of the information requested. Additionally, and only if your child has a medically diagnosed food condition or allergy, please complete our Medical Diets form which we share with our Catering Department. Completed Medical Diets forms should be emailed as an attachment directly to medical.centre@trentcollege.net.
Online Tour
Receive a warm welcome from the Trent staff who you would usually meet during a tour of the school and see inside our modern classrooms, specialist teaching areas and vast outdoor spaces.
Invoices and fees
Invoices for school fees are typically sent during the summer school holidays. You will also receive a pack of information which includes details on how to set up Direct Debits. Payments for fees, and for other items such as school trips, can be made online. If you have any queries please contact our Finance Dept.
