Our annual Big Sing event celebrates our school-wide dedication to music, where opportunity and inclusivity underpin our music programme. Now in its third year, The Big Sing invites local primary schools to join us in celebrating our shared passion for music. This year, we welcomed over 100 pupils from six different schools for a day of singing and collaboration.
The visiting pupils participated in specialist singing workshops led by teachers from our experienced Music School. The day was filled with engaging and fun vocal sessions that encouraged creativity and teamwork. At the end of day, the children came together to form a mass choir and were supported by Trent College Choristers and Chamber Choir. The culmination of their hard work was showcased in a sensational concert held in the Chapel for the enjoyment of their family members.
Our Director of Music, Mr Parrans-Smith, a former professional musician and renowned Director of Music, understands the importance of live performance in nurturing the growth of young instrumentalists and singers. Reflecting on the event, he shares, “We were delighted to welcome so many children to Trent College for a fantastic day of music. Music has the power to enrich the lives and education of our children, yet provision across the country is in decline. At Trent College, we are proud to place music at the heart of school life, and events like The Big Sing enable us to extend that impact beyond our own community.”
Sharing their thoughts on the day, the visiting schools commented, “The Concert was fantastic. The parents couldn’t believe how they could put all that together in one day” and “Excellent quality workshops – lots of new skills learnt and taught by experts, who made them fun and engaging.”
