Dedicated support
Trent College is proud to have invested in three Academic Enrichment Co-ordinator roles who aim to support our Academic Scholars to achieve their full potential. With one Co-ordinator per tier (Lower School, Main School and Sixth Form) their advice is tailored to the age of the pupils in their care and their insights into school life allow them to provide relevant and timely opportunities.
English teacher, Mrs Fullwood, shares why she took onto the extra responsibility to guide pupils on achieving their very best, “I enjoy my additional duties as an Academic Enrichment Co-ordinator, I am passionate about helping pupils unlock their full potential. By providing personalised guidance and further enrichment opportunities, we can inspire them to aim higher, think more critically and embrace the joy of learning new subject matter.”
Exciting opportunities
Additional in-house and external events are organised for our Academic Scholars benefit. Recent examples include a Dragon Den style event led by our Business Studies department for Year 9 scholars, and an ‘Ethics in Business’ session for Year 7. In addition there have been trips to London (Years 10 and 12) and Redditch (Years 7-9) for lectures and debating sessions. The aim of such events is to develop skills in critical thinking, communication and debate, as well as providing new ways to stretch and challenge the pupils.
School wide Co-Curricular offering
Trent College offers an extensive Co-Curricular programme. In Michaelmas 2024, it provided over 180 lunchtime or after-school clubs and prep sessions for pupils to experience at no additional cost.
With so much choice on offer, the Academic Enrichment Co-ordinators are perfectly placed to help pupils identify the best clubs for them to attend in terms of broadening their knowledge and horizons, as well as encouraging pupils to push beyond comfort boundaries and to try something new such as Conservation (Biology) Club, Chess Club or the Junior Politics Club.
School-wide network
Our on-site Careers and Higher Education Centre provides an established programme of careers support for all pupils and starts with engagement opportunities as early as Year 7. With industry , University and Higher Education connections, there are frequent opportunities for all pupils to benefit from professional advice and consider new possibilities for the future.
The Academic Scholars form close links with the Careers team, with many joining societies tailored to providing specialist guidance to students applying to Medicine, Veterinary and Dentistry as well Oxford and Cambridge Universities. This year, the vast majority of early applicants from Trent College to these prestigious courses were made by our Year 13 Scholars. To support them in this competitive landscape, the Scholars have received additional support with the rigorous application process and participated in mock interviews to prepare them as fully as possible.
