Boarding

Boarders of over 15 different nationalities enjoy complete social, cultural and academic integration into the life of the school. As a busy school, pupils have timetabled lessons Monday to Friday and on Saturday mornings, and a range of activities are organised throughout the week. Trent College is a home-from-home for boarders and provides supportive links between the school, pupils and parents.

A BRITISH EDUCATION

International boarding students are fully integrated within the school and study a balanced curriculum which encompasses a broad range of academic subjects. This allows them to embrace a traditional UK education which builds a skillset to prepare them for the modern world. Alongside our varied academic programme, Music, Sport and Drama are specialist areas at the school, giving pupils the opportunity to excel under the guidance of expert tutors.

academic study Options

We offer a choice of programmes:

  • Pre-GCSE (Years 7-9)
  • Two year GCSE (Years 10-11)
  • One year GCSE (Year 11)
  • Two year A Level/BTEC (Years 12-13)

Short term study opportunities (minimum two terms) in Years 7 to 12 enable pupils to improve their English skills and sample a British education.

English as an additional language

International full boarders have up to four lessons per week of English as an Additional Language (EAL) lessons included in their fees. These are taught by our specialist staff, in small groups appropriate to each ability. Year 12 pupils will have the opportunity to study for the IELTS exam, which supports entry to UK universities.

Holiday and Exeats

The school closes for three weekends each year (Exeat Weekends). We know that it is not always easy for international pupils to travel home for these weekends or go to their guardians. Pupils have the option to remain on site under the supervision of trained staff. There is a small charge for this service which needs to be booked in advance. During school holidays parents must arrange for children to travel home or to stay with guardians.

Activities

Boarders have a full range of evening and weekend activities which encourages them to make the most of their free time. Weekly trips make full use of local facilities and on-site activities, providing plenty of opportunity for pupils to relax and socialise.

Community

International boarding pupils can truly experience a British way of life by living in a multi-cultural community, with English as the common language. Parents of boarders benefit from the knowledge that their child is being cared for in a safe and supportive home-from-home environment. In addition to their academic teachers, boarding pupils also enjoy an extended support network inside their Boarding Houses.

safe and secure

The campus is a safe and beautiful environment with resident security on duty throughout the day and night. All accommodation, sports, music and teaching facilities are on one site with one main secure entrance. Access to all boarding houses is by swipe card only.

Looking After You

  • Medical: The school has an onsite Medical Centre staffed by two qualified Nursing Sisters. The centre works closely with doctors from a local medical practice. In the event of an emergency the school is situated 20 minutes away from two excellent hospitals.
  • Emotional wellbeing: Our boarding Houses foster a positive and nurturing environment. Pupils are always encouraged to reach out to staff members for any emotional concerns they may have. We also have a highly experienced onsite counselling team.

Induction

To help international students settle in, we invite all of our new overseas students to our residential Induction Programme before the start of term where they will have time to relax, make friends, meet staff and familiarise themselves with their surroundings. This includes time to sort out uniform, discuss medical needs and prepare for the term ahead.
