Launch of the Psychology Partnership Project

In February 2023 the launch event took place for A-Level Psychology students from both schools and set the tone for the inspiring and engaging initiative. The morning featured presentations from three experts in the field:

  • Cara Flanagan. AQA examiner and renowned author, provided students with invaluable exam advice, equipping them with strategies to excel in their assessments.
  • Dr Phil Banyard. Professor at Nottingham Trent University, discussed cutting-edge psychology research, sparking curiosity and encouraging students to think critically about the subject.
  • Hannah Smith. Alumni of Trent College, shared her career journey in Forensic Psychology, offering students a real-world perspective on the diverse career opportunities in psychology.

Collaborative Events and Activities

Since the launch, the Long Eaton Secondary Partnership Hub has hosted several successful events to enrich the students’ learning experiences. The events programme provides a Year 12 and 13 morning conference in October/ November for all A Level Psychology students and a whole day event in June, designed specifically for Year 12.

Most recently in June 2024, was an immersive ‘Brain Day’ for Year 12 Psychology and Biology students from both Trent College and Wilsthorpe School. Dr Guy Sutton from Medical Biology Interactive led the event, providing an introductory tutorial in neuroscience. Students gained hands-on experience with a brain dissection and participated in various lectures and workshops that delved into the brain’s anatomy and functionality. This hands-on approach not only deepened their understanding of neuroscience but also ignited a keen interest in the biological aspects of psychology.
